How to Write Marketing Copy with Claude Code
Claude Code isn't just for code. Because it can read your whole product — features, pricing, docs, changelog — it can write marketing copy grounded in what your product actually does, and put it straight into your pages.
Here's a practical workflow for landing pages, emails and social posts, with prompts you can reuse.
Step 1: Create a brand voice file
Consistency is the hardest part of marketing copy. Write a short docs/brand-voice.md and reference it from CLAUDE.md so every session uses it.
# Brand voice
Audience: solo founders and small dev teams.
Tone: direct, friendly, confident. No hype words ("revolutionary").
Style: short sentences. Lead with the outcome. Second person ("you").
Proof: only use numbers that appear in the codebase or docs.
Words we use: agents, kits, ship, rank. Words we avoid: leverage, synergy.Step 2: Rewrite a landing page section
Read docs/brand-voice.md and the hero section in src/app/page.tsx.
Write three alternative headlines and subheadlines, each under 12 words,
leading with the outcome for the reader. Only use facts from the codebase.
Show them side by side with the current copy before changing anything.Pick one, ask Claude to apply it, and review the diff like any other change.
Step 3: Write launch emails from the changelog
Read the commits since the last release tag and CHANGELOG.md.
Write a launch email for existing users: subject line under 50 characters,
three short paragraphs, one call to action. Then a shorter version for
people who haven't upgraded yet.Step 4: Turn one piece into many
Point Claude at a blog post or release and ask for channel-specific versions: a thread for X, a LinkedIn post, a Reddit post written for the community's rules, and a newsletter blurb. Ask it to vary the hook for each rather than copy-pasting.
Step 5: Make it a skill
---
name: launch-post
description: Write launch announcements for a new feature across email and social
argument-hint: <feature name>
---
Write launch copy for $ARGUMENTS.
1. Read docs/brand-voice.md and find the feature in the code and docs.
2. Write: an email (subject + 120 words), an X post, a LinkedIn post.
3. Every claim must be verifiable in the codebase. Flag anything uncertain. Now /launch-post Dark mode produces a full set of launch copy in your voice.
Keep it honest
- Ask Claude to list every factual claim and where it found it
- Don't let it invent testimonials, customer counts or results
- Check competitor comparisons against their official pages
- Read copy aloud before publishing — if it sounds like an ad, simplify
